Community Efforts Can Enhance Overall Neighborhood Safety
Living in a small community has many benefits. The houses are often close together so everyone can keep an eye on each other. When someone goes on vacation, they can tell their neighbors and have them watch their home and collect their mail while they are gone. The closer people live to each other, the easier it is for residents to keep an eye on houses. If everyone in the community monitors the activity during the day and in the evening, they can stop some of the potential crimes that may occur. If someone sees something that is out of the ordinary, such as a strange car, they can alert the right authorities or talk to some of the neighbors and find out if anyone else has seen anything.
Small neighborhoods often have lots of children. If there are small streets in the community, then children often like to ride their bikes and play in the streets without thinking about cars that may drive by. Parents can help to watch for other children while they are outside if they let others know their children are playing. This will decrease accidents that children may have while they are playing because there are more people watching them.
